Behind Every Spoon there is a story.
Yompai Limited imports different products from Thailand, primarily Teak wooden utensils.
The utensils are hand made from sustainably harvested Teak wood. Each of the pieces is individually crafted in a small Thai village Baan Lek Nai Pa Yai, which means Small House in the Forest. It is part of the Thai Queens Sustainable Projects initiatives, aimed at restoring the natural Thai environment and giving villagers work that utilise their skills and knowledge in their home village, rather than having to leave to work in Bangkok to work in bars or as taxi drivers.
The wood used is nearly all “Second Life” wood, taken from old furniture, housing being demolished or wood not needed on building sites. The villagers are also replanting Teak and other woods in land around their village as part of the sustainable initiative.
Each piece is beautifully crafted and incredibly tactile, but it is also made to be used in cooking and preparing food.
There is a full range of kitchen utensils from small salt and sugar spoons, teaspoons, spatulas, cups, bowls, salad servers and ladles. None have chemicals or lacquers used, they are oiled with food safe oils and are safe to eat and cook with.
We buy direct from the village. Every piece we sell provides direct support for the village, the people, and for the environment there.
